The Effects of Sexual Assault

On this page, I will provide information about what sexual assault can do to the average person, both mentally and physically.

Effects:

When someone is raped or sexually abused there is a lot of trauma that comes with it. Here are some examples of what a victim could be facing after their attack:

  • Depression

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Flashbacks

  • Self-Harm

  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases

  • Substance abuse

  • Dissociation

  • Eating Disorders

  • Pregnancy

  • Sleep Disorders

  • Suicide

  • Anxiety

All of these conditions can be a result of sexual assault and/or rape. However, if you know someone who is going through this, there are many ways you can help. Click the button below that will take you to the "How to Help" page to see how you can help a victim who is experiencing any of these effects.
